Since my calendar is a big blank after the move, I have no idea what to expect. Hopefully dh will get an idea of travel, etc, next month when he meets with the new unit. Go ahead and plan and I'll try to keep which ever weekend it happens to be free.

I may actually be able to drive to St. Louis from KY!

I'm sure you can! I don't remember which town, but most likely you can take 64 right in to STL!!! ( I just know we go through on 64 on our way out east...)

I can do the end of Sept! Is it set?

It's not "officially official"...need to verify hotel availability.

I'm definitely in--cannot wait. Will be good to come home to St. Louis again!!!

  • 1 month later...

Slacker that I am didn't get working on this a month ago like I planned. So...

I called the guest services operator for Drury Hotels -

The one near Forest Park (where we usually stay) is completely booked that weekend. The new Drury in Brentwood (off highways I-60/40 and I-170; big shopping area), only has guest rooms beginning Friday the 30th, at $179.99/night. They also have meeting rooms showing as available. I'd have to call that hotel location directly to get more information and do their group reservations.

I also checked the website for Hampton/Hilton -

Their location near Forest Park shows rooms available for $189/night, but only rooms with a single King bed. This location only has 1 meeting room - not sure about its availability.

All the other hotels around Forest Park, Downtown, or Brentwood/Clayton seem to be booked up that weekend. Must be something major happening in STL that weekend.

There might be some hotels available out by the airport or in West County (Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, etc)....? I can keep expanding my search radius.

I'm flexible...location (around STL) doesn't matter so much (to me) as long as it's a safe location and convenient for airport pick up and for Tiza to travel back and forth if she doesn't stay. I say, make some calls and see if we can find something comparable. ???????????

I'm trying to think outside the box to things like scrapbook retreat places, but it seems like all the ones in STL arrange for hotels (similar to our process). So they'd be in the same boat and they only do certain weekends because of that.

Any other ideas? I saw there's a casino hotel, but that might be a little extreme for us and I couldn't determine if they had meeting rooms. I like the set up of the scrapping place being in the same building...other options?

So, what about coming to my neck of the woods? Carlyle Lake is just over an hour from the airport. We can maybe rent a passenger van for the weekend and hang out in St Louis until everyone arrives if arriving on the same day, and just kind of roll with it as we go.

So, Carlyle Lake isn't all that commercialized but there are a few things we can do. There are plenty of places to eat and as far as a photo walk, we are only an hour from St Louis, or we can go to different places around the lake. There is a Dam, a suspension bridge, and a small sailboat harbor. http://carlylelake.com/is the website for the lake if you want to read up on it. There are a few places we can rent. We can stay in some cabins if you want or a hotel with a conference room.

Anyone interested?

I'd be interested in that Laura. A new location would be a nice change. I've heard of Carlyle Lake, but haven't been there myself.

I did a quick check and one of the hotels was booked. One had a few rooms and seemed economical, but didn't check amenities etc.

I say, check it out Laura and we can compare to options Theresa finds (if any). We would have to better coordinate flight times. A van may not be necessary depending on number of cars?? I think the vans are expensive comparatively. (I haven't rented one personally but looked for a friend recently and I was amazed at the expense)

We could stay half way, in Fairview Heights/O'Fallon area which is just on the other IL side of the river from Missouri and then go on the photo walk to the lake if you want.

Those are possibilities too. Drury Hotel has locations in both cities - O'Fallon and Fairview Heights. So we could have a meeting room and all the free breakfast, snacks, and popcorn we're getting used to ;)
