Hello everyone I am a newbie! I have done regular scrapbooking for years however the lugging of the supplies is killing me! SO I thought I would give Digital a try! I am curious to see what types of computers you all suggest and Laptop vs Desktop. What type of memory and such you all suggest!

Hi Jenn. Welcome, I wish you luck, digital has been so much fun, as you say lugging all the stuff... I use Mac computers, both laptop and desktop. But you do just as well on a PC. I do have some external hard drives as well. Photoshop or Photoshop Elements are the programs are favored. It's really up to you, and on Scrap Girls there are many tutorials to help you get started. This changes your life. Have fun, and share your creations with us.

Welcome!! I have a laptop because it's portable but started out with a desktop. When I was shopping for a laptop the first time (I've had several over the years), I looked at laptops that were good for graphics and gamers (good graphics on gamer computers). When it comes to memory, processor, etc, I'm hopeless, but I know there are several members who could help you out!

I do the same as the others, and now am using a MacPro 15" laptop. I got the fast hard drive, but you would need an EHD to hold most of your supplies. I do a real paper project now and then, but would never go back to the stashes of paper, glue etc. I just bought a 5T EHD today to join my other EHD drives. :) Good luck. The learning curve may frustrate you at first, but it is worth it. I use Photoshop Elements.

I like to have as much hard drive space and as much memory RAM or Dram, (I have 16 mgs) as you can afford.

I have a laptop I can take to crops, but I really love the big monitor on my desktop. It's especially helpful for older eyes...

When I got this PC, the experts said gamers aren't necessarily best - they need high speed. What we want is high resolution.

If you go with PSE, invest in:

The Adobe products are not intuitively obvious programs, and you'll save yourself much angst and frustration (plus start having fun a lot faster) if you use the tutorials.

Welcome to Scrap Girls! We're glad you found us!

I have a Mac laptop, but when I scrap, I usually plug my laptop in at home on my desk and use it more as a desktop... As in, it's plugged into a 5T mirrored EHD and a large second monitor; I scrap in Photoshop (PS6) on the large monitor, while keeping my Finder with photos and supplies open on my laptop screen. I use a Mac only because when I started learning with Scrap Girls in 2007, my DH had Photoshop for Mac but not PC. Not only did I have a learning curve for digital scrapping, I also had to learn to use a Mac. I was very frustrated for about a year! My DH is a computer networking guru, so now... We've got our photos and my scrap supplies backed up from the 5T EHD to 2 other EHDs that I rotate every week, taking the one not in use to work with me, just to store it somewhere other than our house (in case of fire or theft). And this past week, my DH decided to have a third backup to Carbonite. It probably sounds crazy and overwhelming, but take it all a bit at a time, and don't fall into the trap of thinking that your layouts have to be perfect, or that you have to scrap entire photo sessions and events all in order. Scrap what and how you feel like scrapping, and learn digital techniques as you go... You can always redo layouts later, after you learn more!
