Help! I forgot how to add glitter

I can usually do this, but this particular thing has me stumped.

I have some black and white clip art images of Chrismon ornaments. I need the outlines (black) to be glittered, I have all sorts of glitter styles, but for the life of me I cant remember how I did it before.

Here's what I tried...

1. I added a new layer, filled with glitter effect and tried to clip it. Nope.

2. I selected the black only, then tried to add the glitter. Nope!

I have my trusty old PSE 9 in WIN 10 if that helps at all. I need these images for a Power Point presentation to go with my kids' program. They haven't decorated theirs yet or I'd just take photos.

One image attached. I was able to add to the outline only of the 5 point star, but not this one.

Thanks in advance!

Gasp! I was very worried when I saw the title! Glad you got it figured out!

It's something I haven't used in a very long time. I use glitter styles in my LO's a lot, but just couldn't recall how to do it so simply!

I just CTRL J and get two objects. Give the bottom one a border and then apply a glitter style to the bottom one. It will show. For me that's the fastest way. I used PSE 11 and 13 that way. Have not done it with 15 yet but it will work the same way. Remember to link or merge the layers.
