Cropalot
My used to be computer savy husband gave up on this: I am so confused. I used to use SBA_SS_Actions Shadows ALL THE TIME. I can't get them into PSE15 Correctly. They go into that little box called actions, where I have about 200 items...none of which are in alphabetical order...and I can't get them into order. If I find the shadows and try to use them, about 5 or more steps come up to use them and it still doesn't come out right. I used to have them in Effects. It was simply one click that put a shadow on an item. Then, if I wanted to adjust it's width or direction, I right clicked on the layer on which it was used and directions came up which allowed me to make that adjustment. It was so easy. What has happened? Or have we just lost our minds? At this point, I'm ready to trash it and do back to 13.
CRS
Weren't these styles instead of actions? I haven't used them in a long time, but I think I remember them as styles. Try putting them in that folder instead. I don't have PSE so I'm not really any help, but just a thought.
Cropalot
This is Cropalot again. My brilliant computer man husband found this post and fixed the problem. I would be sorry that I typed the question if it hadn't been a great incentive for him. LOL I'm not sure how he did it, but he got those actions installed in effects and they work just fine. Cropalot
Thank you, Carla. They are called actions, but they work in the effects folder, just like I had them in PSE 13. However, since they said actions, he had installed them in the actions. Why they were called actions, I don't know. May I ask you what you use in their place now if you have not used them in a long time? Did you find something you like better?
MariJ
Glad you got it working!
Cropalot
I spoke too soon. I was able to put those shadows into effects as I have in the past, even though they are named actions. In the past, I would choose the shadow I wanted and click it on the layer. Then a fx symbol would pop up by it in the layers panel, I would right( I think) click that and change the direction, opacity and width of the shadow. It was perfect. Now I can only click it onto the layer from the effects panel or the actions panel. I can find no way to adjust those important factors. Now all my shadows are very elementary and can be on the exact wrong side of the image. I think I need a real expert, but don't know where to find one, except for here at Scrapgirls. This has always been THE PLACE TO COME for things like this. I hope I explained it well enough. I am really at a standstill; since I need good shadows on EVERY layout I do. Merry Christmas! CRS
I use a set by Syndee: ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Shadow Me 6301 I like them because they have brown and grey shadows and there are a ton of different shadows to chose from.
CRS
You know, I wonder if they changed something in the newest version of PSE so that you can't use certain actions/styles/filters etc in that version. I wonder if any other new PSE 15 users have any trouble.
scrapgarden
I am using PSE 15 and have 2 SBA's shadow files. One is styles installed in the styles panel and one is actions. They both work and are editable. Have never used them from the effects panel so don't know how that changed. They worked the same way in 12 and 14. scrapgarden
Interesting. Just put a SBA shadow action in the effects panel to try. Doubled clicked and Magic, there was a shadow layer under my object. It is an adjustable layer just like any other layer, can be be made larger, moved, rotated, recolored etc. Like it much better than running the action Always something new to learn. Cropalot
Is the one you have in the styles called a style.? Mine are called actions. i was able to get the one in effects to make a shadow, but it is on a different layer and I can't figure out how to make the changes needed. Those that show direction of the light source, etc. If I ever could learn to do that, it would take many more steps than what I was able to do before. scrapgarden
I have both of her shadow makers, one is a style and the others are actions. To adjust the direction of the shadow click on the shadow layer and drag it around to place where the shadow should fall. Treat the shadow as an element. It can be enlarged, the opacity can be changed, and you can adjust the color with an adjustment layer. Hope this makes sense to you. I'm not too good at explaining.
