I've found it offensive at times and used when people want you to go away and not pursue what you'd like different. A few people told me that about my shoulder "it is what it is".... Now, really? If I had listened and not pursued I wouldn't be where I am now so much better. I can see where it's meant in a Zen/yoga type of meaning of acceptance, but it's usually not used that way in my experience. (Now WHY did I put that saying here?????)
