Tigerbaby1981
Even after moving everything over to my external HD and reformatting my laptop. My PSE5 is running really slow. Is there anything I can do?? Thanks
Guest siraacsa
When you installed it first time, did you turn off your anti-virus software? I don't know why but it is recommended that you do. You could try re-installing it, just make sure you save any brushes or styles in another folder before you do.
sprinklz
You've probably already done this, but just in case - when my program starts dragging (especially if I've been doing a lot of copy/paste), I restart my computer, and that seems to help
Tigerbaby1981
Thanks I seemed to sort of fix it by clearing the history but I dont really know if that did the full trick... Im going to try and uninstall and reinstall without my virus software on.. I'll let you know how it goes..
MADscrapper
I don't have PSE5, I have 4, but sometimes my machine will slow also. I'm not a computer genius but here are a few little things that I've learned along the way. Try this: Right click on the task bar in the lower right hand corner of your screen, near the time. Click on Task Manager in the pull down bar. Click on the tab that says processes. This will tell you what processes are currently running on your computer. It will tell you what your current CPU Usage is. (This number is always moving and if it's way up near 100% then you need to look at what else is running.) If you look in the column that says CPU you will see some numbers. Most will say 00 and some will show activity. Many times when your machine locks up if you go to this section you can find out what process is jamming you up. Sometimes it may not even be the program you are running. Anti-virus scans, spy sweepers take a lot of juice to run and they can really zap your speed if they are running at the same time. Sometimes you may be unaware that it is running in the background. If you choose to end the process that is bogging you down just make sure it is something that you won't be needing while you are working your program. The processes will reset themselves when you reboot. (Ex: I had a svchost.exe that was sucking all my power. I ended the process and it did the trick but my sound was shut off so you have to be careful. After I rebooted, it was fine again.) Tigerbaby1981
Thanks Mary I didnt know about that. I knew about msconfig on the run program spot.. but Im always scared to shut anything off in fear it'll ruin something.. I'll try this out the next time its running slow
Wxchic
By reformatting, do you mean you did a defrag? After you remove large chunks of files, you want to be sure you defrag your hard drive.
Tigerbaby1981
I actually reformatted with the boot disk and it set everything back to default. I thought it would help but it didnt do much.. but I should defrag more often.. how often does everyone defrag?

It keeps things running smoothly. I don't do much computer work on Saturday, so I defrag then. If you haven't done it in a long time, it may take a while. Rose Ann
Does anyone know which processes it's okay to end? Or is there an extension at the end of ones that SHOULDN'T be ended? I am also afraid to end processes in case one of them is critical.
Guest Sharebear57
I always wonder the same thing RoseAnn. It would be niced if all the processes were clearly labeled to make it easier. I am always too afraid that I am going to screw something up ny ending them. I wish I could go back to the forst day I got my computer and write down all the ones that are supposed to br running. Mindy
I've always wondered why the computer will be running quickly one minute and then just get stuck and run as slow as molasses the next minute. When it just did the slow down thing, it was Adobe Updater that was taking all of the power so I ended the process. Does anyone know if that's ok to do or if I just goofed up something crucial? Also, this type of thing happens about everytime I'm on the computer - wonder if there's anything wrong with it or if I have to just keep ending the process?
