Looking For Basic White Background

Debzanne

Recommended Posts

I'm just finishing working through SS's Digital Designs, and feeling pretty comfortable with the tools and techniques Pearson went through in the book. I'm ready to branch off on my own and try to use the elements she included on the CD to put my own page together from scratch (without using her "schemes" and then copying things in over the template's boxes). However, I'm using such dark pictures I'm thinking about using a white background. Is there any way to insert one (kind of like opening MS Word and getting a blank page) or do I need to buy a package of solid colored "papers" that includes white?

TIA,

Debbie

A good package of papers will probably never be a purchase you'd regret, but you can do a simple background on your own.

When you start a new document in your program, it will usually have an option in a drop-down box about what kind of background you'd like your new document to have. Usually, one of those options is "White." Just make sure that's selected, and you're good to go!

Thanks for the advice. I'd never actually started a new project in PSE, only opened it and imported things, so I'll try that.

So, a good package of basic colored background papers? Any suggestions from the boutique?

Hi Debbie. There actually TONS of great papers over in the boutique! Here a few that I think you will like:

Hi Debbie! Welcome! :D :welcome2:

Did you like Renee Pearson's book? Find it helpful? I heard good things when it first came out, but haven't heard from a newbie about how much it helped!

You should try Ro's Secrets for Photoshop Elements eBook, too - TONS of great info in there and it will really help you get started!

Thanks, Sherri and Betsy, for the welcome. There's really only so much I can figure out on my own, you know? With Heidi's help, I was able to finish my first real DLO from scratch. It's not complex - I'm not there yet - but there's some adjustment layers on one of the photos, and I shadowed the brads. I attached it here in a medium-quality jpg.

Sherri, I appreciate the recommendation on papers. I looked at the link before you gave it to me for the whole boutique, and I wasn't in the mood to search 2,000+ packages for one basic one last night. I'll go back and look at your suggestions, though, and maybe build from there.

Betsy, I really did enjoy Pearson's book. It was very good for newbies, as the directions are very step-by-step, although my first edition has several typos (and a few that are major!), so I hope that's fixed for the next edition, if there is one. I'm generally a capable computer software person (I like playing, and I'm not afraid to make mistakes), but I knew if I wanted to get into DS, I'd have to have some guides to help me. I have bought Ro's book for PSE4, as of last night, but I'm not able to d/l it right now due to a server error on SG's side, so I'm waiting. I'm hoping Ro's book will go into more detail about brushes and tools and the like, which Pearson's book really only touched on. In the meantime, I've finished two complete albums with Pearson's book and I'm working on a third, and I still have a few lessons in the back about using masks, creating your own personalized elements, and some other things.

Happy DSing!

Debbie
