Have you thought about getting Ro's Secrets to Scrapbooking? It deals with Word and how to get started.
I've never used Word for digital scrapping, because I was already familiar with Photoshop before I started scrapping. So I'm not much help, sorry!

Ro's book is a big hit, go into the University, too. I'm same as Betsy, I use Photoshop, although I do know Broderbund's The Print Shop, and CK Scrapbook Designer Deluxe really well. They are both inexpensive and perfect for beginners, and I find them easier than Word, myself.
Keep us posted!

Can you give us specific examples? I work in Word a lot for my unit's newsletter (which I give a scrappy-look to). I am not sure how Ro instructs on how to do this....Have you gone to Insert>Picture>From File? Then right clicking on the picture once it is inserted allows you to move it around I believe...Like bring forward, send backward, etc.

Is it possible to make layouts in Word, you just have to go at it in a different way than you expect. You have to work entirely within a drawing space. That's the only way you can get things to layer up.
Bascially, you open a text box drawing space. Then you have to change the background by inserting the picture there. Then you can use text boxes to add additional things on top.
I guess my mind is a little weird-o because once I was able to see that, I was able to create layouts in it.
I think Word is an okay solution, but graphic solutions are better for digital scrapbooking. The neat thing about Word is that you can do a lot more graphic things than most people have any idea about. That's what the training is all about. GEtting you to know what is possible to do in word. PowerPoint is a much better solution than Word. It is really easy to layer things up in PowerPoint.
I'm working on that training course right now. And the cool thing about digitally scrapping in PowerPoint is that you can create slide shows that you can share with family members, on the web, etc. I'm going to teach how to do all of this.

Oooooo, Ro...HOW EXCITING! Power Point for scrapping?! I am very interested in that and the slide show capabilities.
CBScrappermommy: For my newsletter, I import my picture from file, right click and then under image properties I select 'behind text', and then use text boxes to put type over the images...
Obviously, though, Ro is right! For digital scrapping there are MUCH better programs out there than Word. Word may be good to use to 'get your feet wet' and see if the digital thing is for you...If it is, then it is time to move on to a bigger, better digital program.

just bumping this to ask if there is any news on the powerpoint tutorial please?
I am a huge fan of PP because of its ability to make things move as well as stand still and look pretty. You can then package your PP e-book as a view only show and send it by email or on disc with a PP viewer so anyone can look at it, not just PP users
...it would be lovely to see special PP bells and whistles on sale in the boutique.I have Ro's Word videos, also the ones for PSP X and they are both brilliant and really easy to learn from.

Well, this thread was started in 2005 and it's 2008 now. Alot has happened in 3 years and during that time the majority of people interested in digital scrapbooking have chosen Photoshop, either Phtoshop Elements or if you want to invest: Photoshop CS.
The proportion of people that would use Powerpoint to create a slideshow is pretty small compared to all that want to learn Photoshop, so I don't foresee Ro dedicating time to this at this point.
