Suzanne B
Hi everyone (again!), Is there any easy way to align photos in PSE? Or do you just keep moving them around until it looks right?
Guest siraacsa
I turn on my gridlines when I need to align things. Just go to View>Grid. You can adjust how many gridlines show up via Edit>Preferences>Grid.
chickypow
I usually pull up the grid under View > Grid You can also use the "Snap To" under the same menu, this snaps the photo the to grid line
Susan Neff
If you're using PSE5, you can select the photos you want to line up (hold down the ctrl key while clicking on the photo layers in the layers pallette) - then go up to the top where it says "align." A menu will drop down, and you decide if you want to align right edges, left edges, top edges, bottom edges, or centers. This also works for things besides photos. You can line up the edge of a photo with a certain embellishment, line up paper edges - whatever you select. It's a GREAT feature! Unfortunately, I don't *think* this feature is available in earlier versions of PSE.
Guest DarleneH
Susan, you are correct - it's a new feature available in PSE version 5, but not in earlier versions.

Suzanne B
Thanks everyone! Viewing and adjusting the number of gridlines and using snap to grid made it so much easier. Sounds like PSE5 has added a great feature.
Guest cathyok
Grid lines? we have grid lines? now, that would help!
mickelle
In my version of PS7, there's something besides grid lines, but I can't remember what it's called. The grid lines kind-of drive me crazy, so I put on my rulers. I find a line that I want everything to match up to, and I drag my mouse from the top or side ruler down to the part of my page where I want the line to be. A blue line shows up, and I can use "snap to," as the other women mentioned, to line everything up with that line. (Now, if only I was at home and could figure out what it was called!) April Showers
That blue line is a guide. (I create them unintentionally all the time.) But they're easy to clear. Just go to clear guides under "View." They are great for lining up photos. You do need the "snap to" checked, I think. To create them you just drag your cursor down from the edge of your canvas, and a blue line appears parallel to the side you started in. Or you can go to "View" and click "New Guide" and it will give you a vertical or horizontal choice.
Guest sfcgijill
I use the guides cuz the grids are just soo.. small. way too many lines on there. Is there any way to customize the grid?
Guest DarleneH
Yes, you can change the grids in your preferences (Edit/Preferences/Grid). You can change the number of subdivisions, etc. You can even change the color of the grid lines, so it's less distracting. There is a lot of flexibility. schmoo
You can download a set of free actions called Grants Tools that includes alignment tools for PSE 4 and under. These allow you align things on individual layers by top, left, right and bottom. You can get them here: Grants Tools Make sure you download the correct ones for the version you are using. I'm always looking for those secret shorcuts to get the job done quicker, since the designing takes me a while! Thanks for your reply. brandiev
Ooops, sorry...it must be a PS shortcut? I did try to search for a grid shortcut that will work for PSE users and couldn't find anything. I did find this useful table of shortcuts though: http://www.arraich.com/elements/keyboardshortcuts.htm (not sure if it's been shared here yet or not)
KellyChron
I wish the PSE had blue lines-- I always used them when I did graphic design in Adobe PageMaker... That was the best thing ever! It totally drives me crazy when columns and rows aren't even (especially in the church bulletin)...
