Trying To Understand Organizing

All of this organizing really confuses me. I downloaded a free trial of ACDSEE and like the way it works. One thing I don`t understand, which was a problem also in PSE and Picasa, how can you organize all of your scrapbooking stuff and pictures etc. in ACDSEE and delete them off your HD for space. Whenever I would organize in picasa or PSE and then back up the files and delete them off my HD of course they would no longer be viewable in PSE or Picasa. I surely don`t want all the things I`ve downloaded kept on my HD so why pay $40.00 for a program to organize the most recent files. I have been keeping all of my kits together and then I put just the kits on an EHD and my zip files and also the opened kits together on another one and then I back everything up on DVDs. I then use the portable EHD with all my opened kits to create LOs. If it malfunctions I still have my zips and open kits on another HD or a DVD. I don`t know, maybe I`m just too lazy to organize. :disappearing-smilie: I think I`ll stick to picasa, at least it`s free. Perhaps someone can convince me otherwise.

Hi Bella,
Because you have the EHD - that's just fine to have your items there. The nice thing about organizing your items is that then you can see all of your buttons (that's my favorite search!)

ACDSee does allow you to burn kits onto discs & then see & search the thumbnails even when the discs aren't in the computer!! That is a powerful thing. So since you have your EHD, you could burn off some of the things that you don't use very often if space got to be an issue. When you find something you want to use when it's on a disc - double click on the item & ACDSee will tell you which disc it's on. You put in the disc & then you can scrap - it's as easy as that.

Another feature that ACDSee has is that you can view white png files. That is really helpful for finding stitching & overlays. Picassa can't do that. I'll put a couple of images up... and we have a forum & tutorials if you want to read more here.

I did not know that about Photo Manager.
I just burned a disc of LO's then I deleted them from my hard drive.
Since I deleted the files, they don't show up in that folder anymore. Where do I go to see the thumbnails?

Heidi and Connie! Good to see you here at ScrapGirls! I started organizing my things back in January with this wonderful tool. I'm still tagging, but so far I'm loving how quick and easy it is to scrap now. I'm finding all of my "stuff" (and boy is there a lot of it) much easier when I need it. Thanks for coming over here to help us out!

You can make photo discs by putting each disc back in - and ACDSee will create thumbnails of each image. (Now you've created a photodisc).
Then you can see & search them...

Hi!
I'm glad that you're liking ACDSee -- isn't it great to know what you have & find it fast?

Too cool! I love how I keep finding new and neat stuff I can do with this program.

I don't have a special program, I just do what Ro suggested in her tutorial and make shortcuts like Jo suggests in her post. It's simple and free. :)
here is a link to Jo's post.
