Can I do *anything* with MS Publisher and/or Word?

Can I do anything with MS Publisher and/or Word? my employer restricts software on laptop

Here's the deal. I'm about to head off to a week-long conference. I'm taking my laptop, but it belongs to my company, and we are prohibited from loading any software onto it. I'd love to spend a few hours in my hotel room playing around with creating some layouts, but I only have MS Publisher and Word.

Any ideas? I have no idea what can be done in Publisher or Word, short of journaling. And journaling is NOT what I want to be doing.....

I've never tried to use Word for a layout but you ought to be able to do it.

When I was at the HIA Trade show in Feb, Epson had a big display about digital scrapbooking and encouraged people to use Word.

It's possible...you just don't get any shadowing and it's really limited coming from a design stand point.

But if you are just "noodling" around to get the feel of it, try it.

Can you download anything? For now, go here and download a page set from any of the artists. Download it to your computer at home and then burn a CD for your laptop, if needed.

Then import the images, and start playing.

I use Publisher for a lot of things and I really like it! I find it to be really easy. I have never tried to scrapboook entire layouts on it but I have printed titles, journaling, clip art, newsletters, business cards and stationery on my Publisher program. Try it out.

I use Publisher a lot too.

Thanks. I think I'm going to try and play with words in different fonts and positioning, etc. ... maybe see if it has much use for me for printing out for paper scrapbooking ... I really like the drop shadow effect in all digital layouts, so I don't think I'll try to do a full layout in publisher.

its all i use(publisher), well i use office pic manager to crop my pics but to design i use publisher only..
is there better programs i should invest in.
i send my pics off to be printed at a photo lab, i like the picture quality it gives me
im new to this and any advice will be appriciated.
