Okay - maybe I'm a dork -- but what does the "7,2,7" settings refer to? Is it program specific? I have PSE. When I add drop shadows, I can go in and edit a few settings, but I don't think they correspond to the types of numbers you are giving?
Thanks!

Thanks! I sometimes change these setting, but never thought about changing the color!

Duplicate the item
Add your drop shadow to the item on the bottom only...then change the "fill" on that item to "0"
Here's an example of a layout I used this technique on

Is there a way to get a similar effect using PSE5? (we don't have the "fill" option)

1. Duplicate the object you want to drop shadow.
2. Change the color into much darker shade of the original color.
3. Use gaussian blur. mostly I put 5-10 depend on how I want the shadow look like and how far it is from the paper.
4. Change the opacity to 40-50%
5. Remember to put the shadow layer under the object layer and move it right down a bit depending on your light source.
Sometime we can't just duplicate the object. so we need to change it to a solid color.
1. using magic wand select the blank space on the object layer then Ctrl+shift+I and select>modify>contract slightly, i use around 3pixels.
2. use hard round brush, color it with much darker shade of your object or just black for gray shadow.
Then follow step 3 above.
I use PSCS2. but I think you also can do it with any other program.
