Topics I've Started

Thursday Challenge February 19, 2015

19 February 2015 - 10:13 AM

Movies.  Everyone has a favorite one or two.  Some of my favorites include: The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind and Elf.  Interesting variety, right?   Along with your favorite movie(s), you probably have favorite movie quotes.
Your challenge is to create a layout based on a movie quote.  For example, from the movies I listed you could use:
1.  Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.  Dorothy Gale
2.  After all, tomorrow is another day.  Scarlett O'Hara
3.  I just like to smile.  Smiling is my favorite.  Buddy the Elf

Please post your completed layout in the Thursday Challenge Gallery and post a link back in this thread.

February Recipe Swap 2015

15 February 2015 - 11:45 AM

Happy February everyone!!  Are you ready for this month's recipe swap?

This month's theme is Healthy Recipes.  Low calorie.  Gluten Free.  Diabetic friendly.  Low carb....You get the idea, right??

  • To participate in the Recipe Swap, please email your 4"x6" high resolution (300 dpi saved a high quality - (1200 x 1800 pixel)    Recipe Card to sg.sodscrap@gmail.com by 9 am ET Friday February 27.
  • It is easiest for me if you use your name or user name + the Recipe name (SodScrap_YummyFood) as the file name on your recipe. (I may change it to make it easier for me to track if you don't.)
  • You are welcome to submit more than one recipe.
  • After I have compiled the recipes, you will receive a link to download the recipe cards from all our participants. You must send in a card to get the link!

Please post your recipe in the Recipe Swap Gallery and post a link back in this thread!

Thursday Challenge February 5, 2015

05 February 2015 - 08:17 AM

When I think of Paris, France, I can't help but think of the Eiffel Tower.  What a majestic structure!!  Really, it's a global icon and one of the most recognizable structures in the entire world.
Thinking of the Eiffel Tower...I am amazed at the structure and the construction process that was entailed when construction started in 1887.  (They didn't have our modern technology after all!)  It took a little over 2 years to complete the main structure, 6 months of that was spent on the foundation.  They needed an ultra-strong foundation to anchor the monstrous structure.  Isn't that how it is with our scrapbook layouts?  We need to spend time on anchoring the structure of the layout.
Your challenge is to construct your layout focusing on the foundation and anchoring your photo(s) and embellishments. We don't want them flying off the page!  You can anchor photos with photo mats, photo corners, frames, brads etc.  You get the idea.  Even an embellishment cluster is a great way to anchor your photo.   Also, in honor of the Eiffel Tower, use some metal on your page.

I like this blog post from Monica Embellishments Gone Wild!.  It shows a before and after layout and how the embellishments were all over the place.  The layout remake includes the same items, but are arranged in a much more appealing way.  It puts the focus back on the photo.

Please post your completed "story" layout in the Thursday Challenge Gallery for all of us to read and enjoy!

Tuesday Newsletter Challenge 1/20/15

20 January 2015 - 08:34 AM

Right now!!  Hurry!  Grab your cell phone.  What is the LAST photo you took?  I love the convenience of always having a camera with me.  Um, anyone remember what we did without them??  My photo is of my newly painted toes in flip flops (it's winter in Missouri!).  It was prompted by a random text I sent to a friend.  Then, I took picture-proof to send to her, all while I was at the grocery store.  My toes were COLD!

I think we have a lot of opportunities to snap photos of "every day stuff" that we never would capture if we had to bring out "the big camera".  I quite often snap a photo of something quirky while I'm out and about that makes me think of a family member or friend.  I send it to them and we get a laugh.  This never would have happened before cell phone cameras.

Your challenge is to create a layout using the LAST photo on your cell phone and tell the story behind it.  Be sure to include all the details of why you took the photo and it's significance.  I can't wait to see your layouts and hear your stories!!  (This photo needs to be different than the everyday photo you snapped yesterday for the Jumpstart January challenge.)

Please post your completed layouts in the NL Challenge Gallery and post a link back in this thread.
