I need to pick a color with the color picker of something outside of PSE 11. I can't seem to get it to work. I followed instructions I found online but to no avail. Any ideas?

My almost year off from scrapping has caused me to forget a few things. I am so struggling with getting a SS product to look as nice as the examples do. This months SSClub flowers for instance. Look at these examples See how nice they look when finished? Here's how mine keep turning out no matter what route I take trying to get them done. My finished product always lacks in something. The colors are deep enough. The blue flower was done by adding a layer then filling it with color and clipping it to the flower and playing with the opacity. The pink flower was done by clipping a paper to it and playing with the opacity. The paper is attached also. I want it to have the exact look of the paper with the details of the flower showing through. I can't get it to look like that. The blue one is alright but there is a dullness, for lack of a better word, to the pink one.

Where in the heck are the blend modes in PSE11?! I went to use them for first time since upgrading and can't find them anywhere! Well I found them when a brush is picked but I remember in other versions, being able to use blending modes on a whole layer, not just where you brush. Am I going bonkers?!

Every time I add a Hue/Saturation Layer the color picker grays out and I can't choose any colors from something on the LO. Anyone know why?

Does anyone know how to darken the color of text in PSE11? It doesn't pop up with what I am use to from 9. I can pick a premade color but don't know how to darken or pick from something on the LO. Thanks...
