We decided to squeeze in a visit to Westminister Abbey, admist all of the other day’s activities. It was very crowded and Westminister Abbey is a very tight place to maneuver through. We were waiting in line to go into an alcove which contained the bodies of Queen Mary and her half-sister Queen Elizabeth I. One of the docents started up a lively conversation with Ashley about her stuffed rabbit, Ralph. He coaxed Ashley into giving him Ralph and then when we finished viewing the Queens, we could come back and look for Ralph. All that he said was that Ralph would be in a place he shouldn’t be. Naturally when we emerged from the alcove, Ashley and I both begin looking for Ralph. Imagine my surprise when Ralph had been placed on the throne of England! The very throne Edward I commissioned in 1296. The very throne on which all English monarchs (with the exception of 3) have been crowned since 1308. To say I was astonished would be an understatement. Then the gentleman allowed me to take a picture of Ralph. I love how all of the people are looking at this royal throne with a stuffed rabbit on it. What were they thinking? Then he moved all of the people out of the way and allowed me to take a picture of Ashley next to Ralph sitting on the throne!
