In Topic: Removing Color On All But One Part Of Photo

18 January 2010 - 08:56 PM

Hey Bratty, I have done some pics like this and I love the outcome!
what I do is this:
I use PSE 7 and am trying out PSE 8 now.

Use MAGNETIC LASSO and SELECT the object you want to KEEP the color that it is. Click the MOVE tool (arrow) and you get the 'marching ants' around your selection
Then I go to SELECT-INVERSE (so the marching ants are selecting the background and everything BUT the object)
then ENHANCE/ADJUST COLOR/HUE SATURATION and I play with the sliders till I get the Black & white effect I want for the background.
You can then go to INVERSE or RE-SELECT again and you have your Object selected again, from there you can adjust your hue/saturation for your 'colored' object.

I just did this for my profile picture, which looks better larger, but I took all of the color from the background (and me) and intensified my white shirt.
I could also turn my white shirt any color I wish by adjusting the sliders.

I hope this helps a little, I am learning too-but I thought I would try since I had literally just used this method.
Feel free to ask me if you need a screen shot, I'm happy to help if I can!

So, Sandi, you can't make it? or are we changing it to the first week of Feb? Either time will be fine for me.
