In Topic: Trouble With Templates, Again

I do feel encouraged now that I am not the only one that has these fears and intimidations. Like you, I would do better if someone were to walk me through it --- but until then I will attempt. I keep in mind that it has to be something simple when it doesn't work like it should. I try and try but usually when that happens, I keep repeating the same mistake without realizing it.
I once did actions and repeated it numerous times as I couldn't find them in PSE -- where did they go? FINALLY realized they were there all the time in PSE -- I was just in the wrong menu to see them!!!

I am new to digital scrapbooking and have bought, but not used many of the wonderful templates, actions, etc as they are so intimidating and when I have braved it, I seem to run into problems and end up frustrated.
I am one of those visual kind of gals that need step-by-step of even the most minute process until I understand it - but I realize that this is tedious to the writer and the experienced. I know that many of the experienced take it for granted that we novices know the simple, but it sure can be a snag if not mentioned. The more pictures the better for me as I relate to my screen being like the explanation -- and just don't do as well with written instructions.
I would find it helpful if all the instructions clearly identified the versions of PSE that they are compatible. With as frequent as it seems that PSE is revised, I am unsure often if the older digital templates, actions, etc will be compatible with the newest version. I have PSE 10, but wll future ones be compatible once PSE 10 is upgraded, etc. I have noticed that many are clearly identified in red that they work with PS and not PSE, etc. I assume if there is nothing to state otherwise, they are compatible if they are the newer ones.
I recently downloaded many digital templates, actions, etc --- as well as instructions, but found that there were variances so went with the newest date.
I have copied the above tips --- appreciate that very much.
It's always good to get the perspective of someone learning. As a general rule, everything that fit an earlier version of the software will work in a later version, styles work on both PSE and PS, but actions may be specific to PS or PSE. Occasionally an action that formerly would not work in PSE will work in an updated version (layer masks were added in PSE9 and paths were added in PSE10). You'll usually see a thread about the action if that happens.
If it makes you feel any better, I got over my fear of styles only when someone sat down next to me and walked me through them. I still have anxieties about actions at times. I can really relate to the directions omitting some basic step and being so frustrated I quit for the moment.

Thank you for the clarifications.
Now -- how to do you file them --. I currently have a scrapbooking section for digital that I have made a category for these types of elements -- then further have divided into like groups (mostly basing it on how SG has titled it). Now that I am collecting many of these, I need to find a way that is manageable. -

If I don't understand the instructions the first time around, then I just ignore that action. I think I must go and look at them again. Thank you for the encouragement that you have given me. I think quite a few people were helped by you asking this question.
Thank you.
So well said, Belle! Carol, I'm so sorry for your stress but I've also been frustrated by paper templates and directions so I've been following this thread. So wonderful to see all the helpful, kind responses and encouragement and yes - it's been helpful to me, too. I might be starting to understand the templates a bit more.
THANK YOU is right! And, yes Belle - Carol - very brave to keep at this! Thanks again...
Oh how I can relate to the above fears ---- I have actions, templates, etc that I have 'safely' filed away just because they intimidate me but know one day the light bulb might turn on --- and I will have them. They are so wonderful and I can't resist purchasing............... -
