I fell in love with Raven and Lakota as I created this LO. I'm so thankful to Lei for sharing her babies. I hope I have captured the essence of your story. Blessings, Gina
My Journaling:
Raven, you came into my life when I needed you most. Two years of grieving in our triple emply nest was enough. You came and filled my heart and my days. I delight in your companionship. I delight in your skills. I delight in you.
Lakota, I had so much love left to give. You were mine from the moment I saw your picture. You waited, not knowing whose heart you’d stole. Papa Tom, Raven, and I journeyed to meet you. In God’s perfect timing and with instant recognition, you joined our little family. From the little crooked stripe faced pup to the beautiful lady you’ve becme, you have blessed us.
There are many changes that come in and out of our llives and I am thankful that God has made little furry critters that steal the heart, give love, and bring joy.
You arrived at just the right time.
Lei's Story:
I first fell in love with Australian Shepherds when I was stuck at home with the flu, laying on the couch watching Westminster Best in Show. Before that I never really paid attention to dog shows, breeds or pedigrees. We always had mixed breeds – usually a pup from the farm down the road. Our last 2 dogs, a lab and lab/border collie mix, lived to be 16 years old and both died 2 months apart, the same year our youngest son left for college. We grieved – empty nesting in the truest sense of the word – no kids or dog commotion to come home to – funny how you miss that. After 2 years of no pets I found my heart longed to nurture again and I talked Tom into a dog. That is when I started researching and fell in love with Aussies.
Raven is our first. I wanted a good companion dog – hiking, therapy, rally obedience and agility. She does all well – except the therapy – she greets too enthusiastically! Three years after we had Raven I got the itch for another puppy. Tom balked at the idea but wanting to please me he said yes. I saw Lakota on the breeder’s page where we bought Raven and fell in love with her crooked little striped face. She was one of 3 left to be adopted from a large litter. Usually this breeder has no puppies left! We were leaving for our 25th anniversary cruise and I promised myself if that little cutie was still available when we got back home, then I knew she was mine. I called as soon as we got back and yes, she was still there. We packed up Raven into the car and off we went to meet this little gem – it was love at first sight! I scooped her up and she immediately started licking my face as if to say “Mum, what took you so long!”
There are many changes that come in and out of our lives and I am thankful that God has made little furry critters that steal the heart, give love, and bring joy.
