The journaling reads: The only records found for James Collins, my great-great grandfather are the 1860 Federal Census and a newspaper account of his death by drowning. From these, we know he was born in 1831 in Ireland. He was a laborer living in the First Ward of Buffalo, Erie County, New York. He was drowned, on Oct. 29, 1864, while being ferried across the Creek in a small boat by his nephew. His body was never recovered. He left behind his wife, Anna and five children. The youngest would be born the following April.
