Could also be a problem with how many programs you have running at the same time, more programs means less available ram. Programs running in the background can use a lot of ram.

I have Norton on my laptop so it blocks intrusions/viruses before they have a chance. I did have iTunes open listening to music. I will just use my iPod next time to save ram.
