Topics I've Started

  1. Ro's Battle Line

    21 June 2012 - 10:31 AM

I loved Ro's 'Battle Line' article. (She must have a 'difficult' teenager in the house. ;0)

We live in Idaho and it still gets frosty at night. (My outdoor tomatoes are suffering.) I have yummy organic tomatoes on my counter rack waiting for the afternoon sun. True, not as flavorful as grow your own, but I take what I can get.
  2. Any Veterans Embellishments?

    12 June 2012 - 04:30 PM

    Hello,

I have a big family history scrapbook project and am looking for digital scrapbooking materials for veterans pages, for all the US armed forces branches. Are there insignia/seals embellishments for the Army, Navy, Marines anywhere on this site? For Spanish-american war, WWI and WWII, Korean war and VietNam?

We had Army engineer corps in Spanish American war, SEABEES for the pacific theater in WWII, and Navy and Marines.. So anything good to represent those services would be a great find.

    Thanks! :0)
  3. Hello! New To Scrapbooking And Ambitious

    12 June 2012 - 04:04 PM

    Hello!

I am new to scrapbooking and a bit ambitious. I am the one who has the family geneaology - about 996 people and counting... My relatives always ask me who is related to whom but they are scattered all across the country. There is no one nearby to learn it all so I decided to make a scrapbook/ family geneaology, history book to give to them all before I kick the bucket. lol.

To me, the family is not mere dates and who begat whom. They were living breathing people with interesting stories. I decided to make a huge digital scrapbook with all the stories I remember for the various people, but I wanted to make it interesting so scrapbooking is a fun way to represent them and their stories. We had several veterans that need good veteran pages. One of my grandfathers was a master carpenter AND a musician AND a master gardener. His page would be fun to scrap. Of course, names, dates and all that will go in also.

Unfortunately, family tree maker doesn't have the format I want for family relationships. (It's a dry format) Their printouts are pedigree or other descent types that don't have all the info and relationships I want. (They leave out the siblings) So, I will learn how to make my own brushes for the 'details' i.e. name, birthdate, death date. etc. and make pretty pages for each person and insert the details for the traditional geneaologists types. When it is finished. (big project) I'll distribute the finished work to my relatives on CD or something then they can print it out.

I guess I should ask... Ok, I've already started this project (and gone on a digital scrapbook parts binge lol ) am purchasing the book here on photoshop brushes and made a few pages for some individuals. Doing a lot of journaling with photoshop text didn't work. The text layer tended to die and disappear once it got past a few lines which was a pain to redo several times so I won't use photoshop text for the extended details. I'll use Word. I found that a mix of photoshop pages put into Word where the text info will go is a workable solution. Will that printout ok? I wanted it to go on 11 x 14 paper. Anyone have any ideas or experience with this? I'd appreciate any tips. I want it to look nice and be useful.

    Thanks for any tips. :0)
