Unzipping Difficulties

29 July 2014 - 10:26 AM

In the last three days, while trying to unzip downloaded files, my iMac has sent a message which said it could not complete the unzipping because there was not enough disc space (and once, I think it said not enough memory.)  I'm using OS X, version 10.8.5.  (I've avoided updating to Maverick because of cautionary comments from some people who did upgrade; advice on this would be appreciated, too.)  Checking the disc indicates that about 75% of the space is free.  I thought I knew that disc space and memory (RAM?) are two different things, so getting both messages is confusing.

DH has tried to solve the issue, but he's a PC person, to the core.  He's convinced the problem is all the memory used by PSE; I think he believes I should just get rid of it - which rather defeats the purpose of downloading SG supplies.

I try to make sure that only the applications needed are open at any one time.  I store supplies and completed pages on an EHD, to keep more space open on the main HD.

I'm sure I've overlooked something.  Any ideas, suggestions, or diagnoses would be very welcome!

Photo Album - Bound

13 May 2014 - 02:08 PM

I'm looking for an image of a photo album with a bound cover.  The only one I have is in Brandy Murry's Baby Chronicles album.  It's lovely, but I used it for Alta; now I'm working on a first year album for her little brother, and I don't want them to be identical. This is a flattened png page, with room to insert a photo.  I want to use different embellishments; extracting the cover only would be a LOT of work!

All the book or album products I have, or have so far located in the Boutique, are spiral bound or binders; not what I had in mind.  Do any of you know what I've overlooked?  All suggestions are welcome!

Extracting Still Image From Imovie

21 April 2014 - 04:46 PM

Hi, Mac users!  I'm hoping someone knows how - or if it is possible - to extract a single frame from a video in iMovie.  I took the video last summer, when I was just learning how to use my new iPhone.  I've successfully transferred it to both iPhoto and iMovie.  But I want just two or three snippets, and no motion, to include in a layout.  Is there a way to do this, or am I delusional?  Any advice is welcome!

Newsletter Tutorial Feb 20 - Opacity

20 February 2014 - 09:12 AM

Hi, April

I enjoyed your tutorial on adjusting opacity.  I've been doing it for several years, but your suggestions for how to use adjusted layers were a reminder of techniques I often forget.

One question:  you mentioned a "scrubby slider", which I'd never discovered.  I checked, and it's available in PSE 10.  But in playing with it, I couldn't detect any appreciable difference between using that slider and the regular percentage slider.  Is there any difference in the outcome?

Challenge Or Request . . .

13 February 2014 - 02:33 PM

I've been assiduously watching Olympic figure skating, and I want a paper - or several - featuring the motifs along and behind the ice.  Any designers who'd like to take on the challenge?  The patterns are fascinating, but difficult to analyze beyond the moving skaters.
