Day is Done

When I saw this challenge, my first thought was of sunsets, and then of the lyrics to Taps - which led me to Arlington Cemetery. We've been to two funerals there, one for a family friend, and one for two of my relatives. The small photo is of the caisson carrying the ashes for Jo and John Chatlain. Jo was my mother's second cousin. Mother was one of her bridesmaids, and Jo attended my parents' wedding. Their daughter, Joy, lives across the Potomac from us, in Burke, Virginia, and invited us to the ceremony in August of 2011. I don't remember if she took this photo, or if DH did. The background photo is from the Arlington web page; funerals are not conducted after sunset.

I found the lyrics and the musical notation for bugle on Wikipedia, and used the Shear filter to wave the music. The complete supply list is in EXIF.

Oh this is lovely, Jo. I like what you did here and the interesting and touching information. Your photos are wonderful and I remember singing that song in girl scout camp at the end of the day. :)

Absolutely stunning! Taps is the perfect "ending". I haven't been to a funeral there, but I love to visit and think about the history and sacrifice of those buried there.
