A recipe card from my Mom's box with her handwriting. I couldn't really add much because of the goose on the card, so I told the family Polenta story.  My Mom used to laugh that Polenta became almost a delicacy because it was originally a peasant meal which was very cheap.
Journaling reads:
(By "turn of the century" I mean early 1900's.  😊
"Polenta was made at the turn of the century by Italian immigrants as an inexpensive meal. Because it did not contain meat, my Grandma would not serve it to Grandpa for dinner since he worked hard all day in construction. But on snowy days Grandpa would be home from work and since polenta gets very stiff as it thickens she would Polenta was made at the turn of the century by Italian immigrants as an inexpensive meal. Because it did not contain meat, my Grandma would not serve it to Grandpa for dinner since he worked hard all day in construction. But on snowy days Grandpa would be home from work and since polenta gets very stiff as it thickens she would make it so Grandpa could stir it for her. So in my family Polenta came to be thought of as a Wintery meal and on snowy days my Mom would make it, often telling the story of her childhood and her Dad stirring the pot for her Mom. And almost every time she made it a call would come from her sister asking, “Are you making Polenta?”. As she was too!"
For this recipe card I used:
MPE Global Gourmet: Italian
and my Mom's recipe card

I've had fried polenta few times and bought it once or twice in a tube for recipes. This would be interesting to try someday. It is so nice it is in your mom's handwriting!

I love seeing the cards in your Mom's handwriting. The goose is really cute, even if she does take up journaling space, LOL. I like how you were able to journaling around the edges of the card so we get a bit of family history as well as the recipe! Great idea!

I just love your Mums cards and the story behind this is fabulous. My mum always made sure my dad had meat for his dinner after a hard days work as well :)  I love to eat polenta, its funny how a lot of countries staple meals are now firm favourites with everyone :)

I love the old recipe cards you've done, with your Mom's handwriting. I also love that you add the extra instructions, since it's not specified how to finish it off. Your story is delightful!
