Laptop Question

I apologise if this has been covered elsewhere, but I was wondering if anyone had advice on the best laptop I can get for digital projects??!!!

To cut a long story short, we decided to move to a 3 bedroom apartment, and as such I lose my scrapping room. In return (tee hee), I get a laptop (and I have to fit 8 cupboards of scrapping supplies etc in under bed storage, ah but that's another issue. I'm on very friendly terms with the staff of Ace Hardware here in Dubai, who think I am setting up in competition with them for storage containers, LOL!!!). I digress ...... I am guessing that I need to get the biggest storage etc I can, but not sure what this is! Very grateful for any input since we move in about 2 weeks and I NEED to go shopping!!!!

TIA :2468who-do-we-appreciate:

I hope someone answers this as I've been considering the same thing. There are times when my creativity is high but my body needs to be in bed rather than sitting upright in front of a desktop computer. I've been thinking it might be time for a laptop so I'd be curious to know as well.

Get the highest amount of RAM, memory and processing speed you can afford. As with all things electronic, the bigger the numer, the better.

You'd going to want a CD/DVD burner, too, so you can store things off your harddrive. Maybe even a flash drive and/or external harddrive unit for storage of photos, downloads, and layouts.

There's no one right answer. You may love Macs, but you may want to be able to play games, too, and need a PC.

We have a Toshiba we've had for almost 3 years and have been very happy with, but I don't scrap on it.

I have a Dell laptop that I ordered with a 17" wide screen. It's a bit heavy to tote about too much, but well worth it when I'm scrapping because I can see what I'm doing. I got a higher end one with a lot of storage space, writeable DVD/CD, etc. PM me if you want details and I'll get out the paperwork with all the options listed. I have to tell you that I LOVE it! I think it's almost faster than our big computer and it's so convenient to be able to scrap anywhere at all. I take to DS hockey practice on a regular basis and get a lot done there. It's been well worth the investment!

Glad you asked because I have been thinking about the same thing. I will prob end up with a Referb Dell with a BIG external hard drive. We just got one for my dd that is 600G for $99 at Sam's club.

I have a new Dell Desktop that is a referb and I LOVE IT just need a bigger monitor dh has 2 19"flat screens that work as one at work.

Well, I have a Refurbished Dell that's about a year and a half old. RAM is sufficient to scrap with, but my harddrive is only 30GB, so I added a 160GB external drive to house extra-large programs and my organized downloads. It works and, even though the external drive does cut down the portability a smidge, it still works well for me.

I LOVE my 17" screen HP Pavilion zd8000. My DH has the same laptop, but the smaller screen because he has to tote his to work every day.

I am glad some of you have had good luck with Dell! A had a nightmare of a year going around in circles with the support staff there! Basically my laptop wouldn't function as a laptop- had to always be on AC power. The kept 'fixing' it and sending it back and after the fourth time it still didn't work and by then the warranty was up and they wouldn't do anything more. But that was just my experience. I am now finally happily married to my HP Pavillion :happy-sun:

I have a dell also and have been happy with it. Though I use it for work stuff more than anything. But as far as what to look for, a post above is correct. Mostly you want lots of memory and a large hard drive. Speed is importand to, though most people are not going to notice too much if it is a new laptop. CDR drive will let you write to cds to save your work, and the larger screen size is nice, though resolution is more important I think.

refurbished toshiba, they are the best laptops on the market. At least that is what DH says, he uses his for some really intensive web developing, design, and programing. But like I believe someone else said, buy extra ram in you get one.

I have a dell but its not the best thing on earth. When i had 20 whole kits on there it worked at a snails pace and i just couldn't work on it. Eventually we found out that there was some virus on there so my brother kind of scrapped the whole thing and put xp back on there. I just use my dads old, old fat computer for scrapping on. I use Draw Plus or Page Plus on there and its works wonderfully.
