Mikelle
Welcome to Mess… versus Masterpiece? If you’ve never participated in this game before, welcome – and if you have done MvM before, I’d like to try something a little different this time around. I'll tell you what supplies to use for each task, one task at a time spread throughout the day. Usually the supplies you pull from your own stash are based on a set of numbers I give you – you count through the folders and files in your stash to the correct number, and you use that paper or element on your layout. You can imagine, it can get quite messy by the end of the day, especially since we all have different ways of organizing our supplies, and you never know what you’ll end up with! This year, the supplies you’ll pull from your stash will be based not necessarily on numbers, but sometimes on different random requirements. Beware, these will NOT necessarily be easy, but you might get to know your stash much better after this game! Are you up for the challenge? Check in throughout the day to see if a new task has been posted. If you can't be glued to your computer all day, never fear – once all of the tasks have been posted, I will update this initial post to include all of them, so that you can still get this game/challenge layout done to count toward the grand prizes. To be eligible for any of the 3 grand prizes you must participate in all games and challenges by the deadline (midnight est 7/2). We will then do a random draw for each of the prizes from everyone that’s eligible. 1st Prize: $75 GC 2nd Prize: $50 GC 3rd Prize: $25 GC Each individual game/challenge will have a $5 prize Before we start, remember that this is supposed to be fun – don’t think too hard about fulfilling the requirements perfectly, but do the best you can with your own stash of supplies. Nobody will be going over your layout with a fine-toothed comb – we’ll just be admiring it, or (more fun) we'll be amused by it. If you are newer to digital scrapping, you might not have a very large stash yet – this makes your final layout even more interesting! Ready? Here is your first task (see the next post). 1
Mikelle
TASK #1: Based on your birth month, find “your” photo below. For the remainder of the game, you will do your best to match the color palette of your assigned photo. Go ahead and find some photos of your own to use for your layout, based on this color palette. Place your photo(s) on your page (whatever size layout you usually scrap with). Just want to clarify, in case I didn’t explain very well: You will use your own photos for the layout. The photo assigned to you below based on your birth month is just to give you a color palette to work with. Keep in mind, though – if you find that you can’t completely stick with your assigned colors and still meet a future task requirement… you may have to throw other random colors onto your layout! You never know… you may still end up with a masterpiece! If you were born in January, May, or September, here is your color palette: If you were born in February, June, or October, here is your color palette: If you were born in March, July, or November, here is your color palette: If you were born in April, August, or December, here is your color palette: (All photos are stock photos from Pexels.com. Credits to Miesha Renae Maiden, Teona Swift, Nataliya Vaitkevich, and Dominika Roseclay.) It is actually Sunday evening for me as I posted this first task, so I am going to bed now. Be patient - I will be back in the morning and I'll post the second task before I head into work. 😁 1
Mikelle
TASK #2: Papers. Find your papers based on the requirements below (honor system!) - If you are a cat person (if you prefer cats as pets), find two papers to start with. One of your papers must be striped. - If you are a dog person (if you prefer dogs as pets), find three papers to start with. One of your papers must have circles on it, and another must be plaid. - If you are a bird person (if you prefer birds as pets), find two papers to start with. One of them must be sparkly. - If you prefer some other animal as a pet (rat, snake?), find just one paper, but it must be patterned with some sort of element or elements… (errrrr… what the heck do you mean???) I mean, your paper must have, for example, a pattern of apples, or candy canes, or flowers, or paw prints, etc. Not just stripes or wavy lines. - If you either aren’t a pet person, or you do like pets but you don’t have an animal preference, choose three papers. One must have either triangles or squares on it, and another must have water stains/water wash/water drops. You can layer and/or blend your papers as you wish, but try to ensure we can see the required parts (like the circles, patterns, etc). 1

Mikelle
TASK #3: Title: Figure out a title to use on your page. Then, based on the first letter of your last name, find a font or an alpha to use for your title - the name of the font or alpha must start with the same letter as your last name! Orientation of your title on your page: If you are wearing socks right now as you read this, place your title as normal. If you are not wearing socks, turn your title 90 degrees sideways - either clockwise or counterclockwise is fine. 1

Florida granny
I've been out all day so am playing catch-up, but I promise to do each task in order without peeking ahead. . This is the photo I chose for my May color palette:
Mikelle
TASK #4: Embellishments (first set of embellishments): OK, for your first set of 3 embellishments, I'll give you a series of numbers. You will count through your folders and files to find the embellishments that were absolutely meant to be on this layout. 😂 Again, if you've never had to count through your stash during one of these MvM challenges, do your best - we all have different ways of organizing our supplies. The important thing is to be consistent with the way YOU are counting - as in, don't count a certain way for one embellishment and then change it up for the next embellishment (this might "accidentally" happen if you decide you're not happy with the embellis destined for your layout!) If you end up inside a folder that doesn't have enough folders/files in it to reach the given number, just start at the top of the folder/file list again and continue counting; do this as many times as you need to, to reach the required number. Ready? Embellishment #1: Folder #22, folder #5, file #35 Embellishment #2: Folder #48, folder #3, file #18 Embellishment #3: Starting from the bottom, folder #12; then from the top, folder #11 and file #4. Here's an example of how I myself would find embellishment #1, based on how my supplies are organized... I have my SG embellishments all in one folder, organized by designer, so I would just go into my embellishments folder and start from there. I would count down to the 22nd designer folder and open it, then I would count down to the fifth collection for that designer and open that folder, then I would choose the 35th embellishment in the list. Of course, at the moment I am at work and so I don't know what embellishment that actually will be for me... can't wait to see! 🤣

Florida granny
Step 2: papers. I'm more of a dog person, so here are my papers from MPE Global Gourmet: Italian; SNU Altered Life and SRO Cardstock: Blank Canvas. (I figured I'd better add some white so this doesn't turn out to be a TOTAL mess, LOL.) Here are the papers with the photo. I used a retired template from Melissa Renfro. The template looked great in black and white but I have a bad feeling about which way this layout is going.... Title added. I used the Lithos font.
barbaraj
I only have 15 folders.

Mikelle might suggest something different but I'd suggest just keep going back to the beginning and start over again. E.g., Number 16 is just your number 1 folder for the second time 'round.

Hi Barbara, yes, the above sentence is buried toward the end of my post for task #4, but just start at the top of your folder/file list again and keep counting. MariJ
WHOA! I did not realize this game was going so fast, I thought it was a task-a-day! I'm going to have to do some quick-time here! And, I am SO BAD at quick-time scrapping. 😱 I should have read more carefully. Ok, off to catch up, I was out for awhile. 🏃♀️
Mikelle
TASK #5: Now for the second set of embellishments... are we having fun yet? I think the layout updates that have been posted so far look like masterpieces. We need some messes, so here we go: - If the first letter of your middle name begins with A through G, choose three more embellishments. One of them must be a candle or a flame. - If the first letter of your middle name begins with H-K, choose two more embellishments. One must be a snowman, a snowflake, or... ok I'll be nice... a seashell. - If the first letter of your middle name begins with L-Q, choose four more embellishments. One must be a bell of some sort. - If the first letter of your middle name begins with R-Z, choose two more embellishments. One must be a shoe or sock. 😂 And the shoe makes a comeback! 👟 2

But, with a week of activities and fun and still trying to finish up Bingo, I'm going for it in one shot. That's the fun of it, right? Can you tell so far, I think this will be a MESS? I just realized that my counting brought up both a Christmas ornament and a Star of David! The fish was luck, but it's actually from a food embellishment set! Oops and I just realized that my main paper has blue in it, it was supposed to be water. I guess that's ok?

Tracy
Okay, whew, catching up after a busy morning. I have followed each prompt and added everything to my program and I am gonna be a mess!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Dogs, socks, October, M ....... oh man a mess is coming. Yep, a bit of a mess.
Jane in N.Z
Task 4.......totally the wrong colour and theme Haven't a clue what I'll do with them yet. Task 5 .....these are a bit better, once I found the candle the other 2 are from the same kit
Amy D
The only photo requirement was to keep it within your assigned color scheme, right? And the title orientation and Alpha from is according to the letter of your last name, right? This is what I have so far ...
Mikelle
TASK #6 (sorry, didn't take a nap as you all hoped, but I did get distracted!) Special Additions: Based on the food group you'd prefer below (say, if you were stranded on a desert island), add the required special addition to your layout: Veggies: Add a photo frame, or frame one of your photos in some way. Fruit: Add a photo mask - I'll be nice on this one, if you'd like to use it for a photo, go ahead, but you can also just colorize the mask and use it behind your photo or somewhere. Bread: Add a page border. It doesn't have to surround the entire page, just at least stretch it along one side of the page. Pasta: Pin or stick one of your photos to your page in some way - you could use photo corners, a thumbtack, tape, etc Dessert: Use some sort of effect on one of your photos. This could be a filter, or overlay, change it to black and white, use a style on it, etc. 🥸

Florida granny
The first set of embellishments: some beads, a ribbon and a book. (A book? What's that doing there???) Plus I'm not wearing socks so my title is sideways. How these are all coming together I have no idea. I needed three embellishments for the second set, so I added a flower, an art doll (why not? ) and a votive candle from a Christmas collection. Fortunately, I didn't have to add a shoe. Here's the mess masterpiece so far: 1
Mikelle
TASK #7: WORDS - If you are right-handed, find a quote to add to your page. You may treat the quote any way you wish - if you need to add a style to it, etc, if it is a premade quote by one of our designers; or if you use a font to write your quote, you can use any color or style on it. - If you are left-handed, add journaling to your page. The journaling can be any font or color. - If you are ambidextrous, find a piece of wordart to use on your layout. If you already have wordart added, add another! I imagine everyone is a little worried at this point - it is getting late even for me, and some of you have likely given up and gone to bed. More surprises for you in the morning then! 🤪 We will only have two more tasks after this one. You're welcome. 1 1
