April Showers
Thursday, September 21st We've left the Mediterranean and have headed north to Scotland where we are guests at Cawdor Castle! This romantic fairy-tale castle has been the home of the Thanes of Cawdor since 1370 with its dramatic medieval tower, dungeon, turrets, battlements and a drawbridge. According to legend, the castle is built around a thorn tree, which has since been identified as a holly dating from 1372, which visitors can still see today in the dungeon. The castle’s carefully manicured grounds encompass three beautiful gardens, the Cawdor Big Wood and a 9-hole golf course. The castle also has a gift shop, bookshop and wool shop, in addition to the courtyard café located in the castle itself. Think of all the mischief fun we can have here. Start a layout using something in these photos as your inspiration.
MariJ
OOOooooh, a castle, how fun! I've been to Scotland but not this castle! 🏰 I wonder what trouble some ScrapGirls can get into - but we'd better be careful. I'm a little worried reading about that DUNGEON, I sure don't want to be left there! I'm off for breakfast - I hear it's a traditional Scottish one today and I think I'll read up about the castle by the pool before visiting it Anyone want to join me? Have you ever seen/had a traditional Scottish breakfast? 🤣🤪 We went to Scotland in 2012 and oh my word. My hubs tried a traditional breakfast and I was amazed he ate it. He tried the blood pudding but couldn't eat it as it was too rich. Off to find photos from long ago to use in this layout. Cant wait to see another castle, they're so fun. Super thick walls. Stone steps. Such beauty. Race ya to the kitchen! Those are always interesting with the bread ovens.
Boatlady
I love castles...we toured many when in Germany but that was 70's before digi photos so I will have to use something more current. Sounds like everyone is making scrapping plans with these photos for inspiration..

Maybe they'll have a scone there. And I'm definitely up for exploring the castle! I wonder if they'll let us try on some suits of armor?

April Showers
Friday, September 22nd Today we’re getting a full tour of the castle and its gardens. We even get to climb up to the turrets and hang out on the battlements. On our tour, we’ll see lots of portraits of generations of Campbells, some amazing Flemish tapestries, the holly tree in the dungeon. No locking each other in the dungeons, shooting arrows from the battlements or swimming in the moat. There is a hedge maze too. I hope no one gets lost! Add an arrow, a flag or pennant, some plaid and a bit of greenery to your page. They don’t have to be big!
Tracy
This is so much fun!!! I got sucked into a rabbit hole searching old external drives for photos. Oh man, I had scanned all my photos (from parents) from 1970 forward. Was fun traveling back in time. And along the way I found my Scotland photos. And Edinburgh Castle where the cannon demonstrator was all nice and fun and friendly until he asked my daughter her name and she said Elizabeth! 🤣🤣🤣 Such memories. Thanks @April Showers for this wonderful stop and reliving memories. ❤️

MariJ
Sounds like a fun place and day, but uh-gh... I heard a lot of noise and laughing over by the hedge maze. I'm going to go check it out, I hope we don't get banned from this castle.. Or worse!
Florida granny
Did someone mention a cannon demonstrator? I wonder if he'd let us give the cannon a try? And what's all that noise coming from the maize? ???

April Showers
Saturday, September 23rd This medieval castle is best known for its literary connection to William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth, in which the title character is made "Thane of Cawdor". Cawdor Castle is an integral part of the play where it serves as one of the primary settings. We have tickets to see Shakespeare at Cawdor Castle tonight! I wonder which play it will be. Maybe something fun like A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Add a quote to your page. Bonus points if you can work in a Shakespearean quote. Post your Scotland layout in the in the World Tour Gallery.

Boatlady
Here is my Scotland page. Seems pretty quiet here so let's all get together at the pool this afternoon. I need a little down time and some tan. Oh and the pool boy to soothe my weary eyes. 1
