Letters from Helen, left page

The photo is of my grandmother, Helen, holding my mother, Marianna, just after her first birthday. They were visiting Helen's sister Elise in Huron, South Dakota, during the summer of 1918. I don't know when the curl was clipped - the note card isn't dates, and Marianna's hair looks awfully short - but the small envelope holding the card was in with the other letters (on right page). The curl and bow are sewn to the card.

I edited the photo using techniques from Katherine Weaver's wonderful class on photo restoration.

Oops - I just noticed a typo in Mother's name, under the picture. Have to fix that!

Oh what an awesome piece of journalling. So nice to get that tiny brief look at what seems to have been a pretty special lady!

A peek into the life of a beautiful woman. Your journaling is incredibly touching. A legacy of words bringing to life the presence of the past. This is Touching beyond words. A beautiful memoir.

What a lovely and moving tribute you have created for your grandmother. I love the way you used the things you found of hers as emb’s and you did a wonderful job with the heritage feel, while still including such pretty color.

It sounds like she and your mother had similar lives as my mother. Kind of in between the two in age, she was born in Chicago, grew up & taught school in ND, and lived back in Chicago for her early married life.
