SG 2021 Project Holiday Traditions: Wk 5 - Stocking

This was hard as these past two years a lot of Christmas Traditions have been absent.
Journaling reads:
"The past two Christmases have been anything but traditional. Minimal decorations, no tree, family gathering or special food and different venues. But a constant through my years has been my Christmas stocking. It measures over three feet high and was sewn by my Auntie Sue who was also my Godmother. It all started after I was born when my Mom did not want a little stocking to fill with small trinkets so she asked Auntie Sue to make one that my gifts could be put into. “You find a pattern, I’ll make it”, she answered. Mom found directions for a Christmas boot which they lengthened and then they designed different holiday shapes to be sewn onto it along with sequins, fancy stitching and a name. My older cousin and I got the first trial stockings, then every family member received one. Babies got theirs on their First Christmas, in-laws after the weddings. Auntie Sue made stockings for numerous close friends and “almost family” members, too. We once tried to count how many she made and passed 100 knowing we forgot some. Auntie Sue lovingly matched siblings stockings so they were similar but unique and even changed colors so there are a few gold, green and white ones. She even made a fancy French laced shoe for ladies and a “Dad” boot for fathers. At one point she sold them and made a few Hannukah stockings, too. Each one is exquisitely sewn and a work of art. Everyone treasures their stockings and the Christmas after Auntie Sue died we took a family photo with each of us holding our own. I made the photo into a Christmas ornament for each family member the following year."

I love your journaling! It's so nice to see your stocking, too! DH and I proudly display ours and I have many happy memories of helping your Auntie Sue with the handwork on several of them in later years. They are true works of art... and love. Needless to say, I love your page!
