  1. WINNER POST!  Winners of the first four weeks of March Madness 2023, by random drawing:

    Week 1:  Belle  @Belle

    Week 2: Carla @CRS

    Week 3: Grace @GraceJ

    Week 4: Jane @Jane in N.Z

Congratulations to the four of you!  You each have won a $5 gift card to the SG Store.  To claim your prize, email Angie at prizes@scrapgirls.com to let her know you've won.

We still have the drawing for week 5, which is also a $5 gift card, and then the Grand Prize drawing of a $20 gift card.  In order to be eligible for the week 5 drawing, you must post your week 5 layout by Sunday evening April 2nd at midnight ET (I'll give the last task for layout #5 on Friday, March 31st).  To be eligible for the Grand Prize drawing, post any or all layouts we've done this month by the same time (Sunday, April 2nd by midnight ET).  You will earn one entry for each layout you have posted by that time (so if you've posted all 5 March Madness layouts at some point during the month, you'll earn 5 entries to the drawing).  So, there's time to catch up!

  2. Welcome to Week 5 of March Madness!  As for the "real" March Madness, the NCAA basketball tournament - my team (Gonzaga) lost this weekend.  Boo.  Maybe next year will be better for them!  I also have had a bad cold and low-grade fever all weekend.  I've been super useless all weekend.

This week we will be finishing layout #5 on Friday instead of Saturday, since Friday is the last day of the month, but you will have until Sunday, April 2nd at midnight ET to post your finished layout in order to be eligible for Week 5's drawing.  If you're trying to get caught up, you also have until Sunday night (April 2nd) to get all of the layouts posted that we've done this month, to be eligible for the grand prize drawing.

    March 27th (Layout #5, Monday):

Choose 2 or 3 photos you want to work with this week; choose photos that you don't mind being smaller on your layout (closeups work well).  Find one solid paper to use behind the photos.  Don't overthink the solid requirement - the paper just needs to be mostly the same color, without much of a pattern.

  3. March 25th (Layout #4, Saturday):

You made it to the end of another week, with another incredible layout!  Add your finishing touches, date, etc and upload your layout to the Slow Scrap Gallery.  Come back to this thread and leave a link to your layout!

If you post by Sunday night at midnight (March 26th at midnight ET), you'll be eligible for the week 4 drawing.  And yes, I realize I haven't done the drawings yet.  I'm prolonging the anticipation!  But I will soon.  Keep your eyes peeled for a winners post!

  4. March 24th (Layout #4, Friday):

Talk about BUSY!  I'm not worried though, you all have done an amazing job this entire month, I'm so impressed with all of the layouts!  Our task for today:

Choose 3 of the following to add to your layout (add them even if you already have similar elements):

    - Sparkle or glitter

    - A photo frame

    - A flower

    - A charm of some sort (I love charms, especially the lucky ones!)

    - A clock or timepiece

    - An owl

    - A splash of pink

    - A clip (paper clip, binding clip, hair clip... any sort of clip)

    - A snowman

    - A pencil, pen, or paintbrush

    - A paint splatter or paint stroke

    - A shoe

March 20 was Monday (yesterday) which started the new week. Mikelle called it March 19. Maybe she was still in Sunday-rest mode? :D

LOL... since I'm on the west coast of the U.S., 3 hours behind ET, I post the task around 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. my time the night before.  Sometimes I get a little confused and use the date on my computer (the date I'm posting) rather than the task's date.  Oops!

Are we all ready?  This week might be a little mad... just a little.  :shycouch:

To start this week's layout, use the photo below as inspiration for your layout.  Choose 3 papers and your photo(s).

I found this stock photo on Pexels.com (credit to Antoni Shkraba), after searching for "madness."  I love this photo - so colorful and busy, and shows what looks to me like a madly busy day of trying to multitask.  Busy, crazy, lots of movement - but colorful and interesting!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I think we need a little more madness this week...  Add to your layout at least one of the following:  A shamrock or clover, a pot of gold, a leprechaun, a coin of some sort, or a green flower.

Now add a bit of sparkle somewhere on your layout!  I know we did this last week too, but I love glitter.

I hope everyone has a lucky day today!

  8. Oh boy, do I hear a little grumbling?  :shycouch:

    March 15th (Layout #3, Wednesday):

    Two tasks for today:

    1. Add a page border.  The border does not have to go around the entire page, you can place it just along one side, or two, or three.  You may use a premade border - our designers have made some beautiful ones!  Or, you may create a border yourself; this is why I had you wait to place your embellishments, in case you'd like to use some or all of them in your border.  If you need to find a ribbon or string, etc to use as your border base, that's fine; add whatever you need to your layout in order to create your border.

    2. Arrange your embellishments.  You can duplicate/multiply any of them you'd like and use them more than once (so if you used some in your border, you can use those same embellishments again elsewhere on your page.

  9. March 14th (Layout #3, Tuesday):

    1. Add a fourth paper, but find some way of using it without blending it into your already-blended background.  Some suggestions - you can use it as a matte behind your photo(s), or angle it into one of your page corners, etc.

    2. Next task, find 7 unique embellishments to use for tomorrow's (Wednesday's) task.  Just throw them onto your page for now.

I think I'm not being hard enough on you all.  There's not enough madness to my methods!

I'm using a photo of my paternal grandparents and I used these papers - BMU_FadedRose_Gray_Paper_Gray, BMU_FadedRose-Gray_Paper_LtGray, BMU_FadedRose_Gray_Paper_Text and used ink spills blenders to blend them. I hope it was okay to use the blenders?

Yes, definitely!  You can blend the papers any way you like - blenders, masks, blending modes, opacity differences...

  11. Awesome job on last week's layouts, everyone!  I'll try to do the drawings for the first two weeks later today (Monday).

    March 13th (Layout #3, Monday):

Choose any number of photos you'd like to work with this week, but then turn them either black and white, or sepia.  Choose three papers, and find some way of blending them to create a blended background.

Woo hoo, off to a good start!  😃

You made it to the end of layout #2 - awesome job!  Add a little journaling, finishing touches and date, then upload your layout to the Slow Scrap Gallery and come back to this thread to leave a link to your layout.

Make sure that if you want to be eligible for the week 2 drawing (for a $5 gift certificate to the SG store), post your layout by midnight Sunday night, March 12th.  Thank you for a fun week!  There will be no task tomorrow (Sunday); we'll start layout #3 on Monday.

Well, you all handled that last task very well!  I'm pretty sure I even heard a few sighs of relief.  😂

Today, create a title using two different fonts.  Then, angle at least one of your photos; doesn't matter what angle, just not straight up and down.  If you've already done this (like I see Jane has - very cute layout so far, btw), then you're done for today!
